Argentina earthquake info 1
A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck far northern Argentina Saturday near its border with Chile and Bolivia, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake rattled part of the Andes mountains region at 4:44 pm (1944 GMT), some 190 kilometers (120 miles) northwest of San Salvador de Jujuy and 240 km (150 miles) southwest of Tarija, Bolivia at a depth of 141 km (88 miles), according to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

The tremor followed two substantial quakes in the region Friday, including one of magnitude 6.5 near the Chile-Peru border and another measuring 5.8 that struck several hundred kilometers to the north of Argentina’s Jujuy province.

The readings are based on the open-ended Moment Magnitude scale, now used by US seismologists, which measures the area of the fault that ruptured and the total energy released.

Earthquakes are common in the western part of South America, along which runs the Peru-Chile trench, a region home to the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- Earthquake monitors say a 6.3 magnitude temblor has shaken the ocean floor between South America and Antarctica, too deep and far from land to cause any damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake hit at 8 a.m. (1200 GMT) Sunday in Drake Passage, about 220 miles (354 kilometers) southeast of Ushuaia, Argentina, at a depth of 13 miles (21 kilometers).

Firefighter chief Carlos Arimendi says they didn't feel it Argentina's southernmost city. Chilean seismologists said it had no impact in Puerto Williams, a Chilean outpost across the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia.

Seas were calm at South America's southern tip, and no tsunami warnings were issued

Argentina earthquake info 3
Argentina is situated in South America, the capital of Argentina is Buenos Aires and the official language of Argentina is Spanish. The country is said to be among the largest in the continent. These days earthquakes have become common, recently we have seen earthquakes in Haiti and Venezuela and now the Argentina earthquake. The Argentina earthquake started at eight am which was local time. Earlier we saw Venezuela hit by an earthquake measuring 5.6 at the Richter scale and Haiti hit by a bigger earthquake measuring 7.0 at the scale. Argentina has seen earthquakes of similar magnitude in 1874, 1829, 1903, 1906 and many other years ahead of them.

The Argentina earthquake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and it hit Argentina on 16th January 2010, which was a Sunday. While Haiti has recently seen over a 100,000 deaths, no such deaths are revealed about the Argentina earthquake. The Argentina earthquake was centered around 220 miles south east from Ushuaia in Argentina. There was no warning issued for tsunami, the depth of the Argentina earthquake was 6.2 miles. News of damages or any victims are still not known from the Argentina earthquake. The Haiti earthquake pictures have just been released and people have still not recovered from that earthquake, and we hear of the Argentina earthquake.

Argentina was about to send aid for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. This month has seen several earthquakes and who knows there might be more earthquakes coming up. These earthquakes that have been happening are of a great magnitude and so earthquakes or tremors in areas close to them are possible. The motto of the country when translated to English means; In Unity and Freedom, we hope they all stay united at a time like this and overcome this disaster.
